Bar visit: Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà in Rome, Italy

I was on a vacation to Rome recently and of course I had to visit the #1 beer bar in 2010 according to Ratebeer.com!

We stayed there for a couple of hours and had a great time there. It's a small place and they're fans of AS Roma, so if they're playing then don't expect to be able to get in there at all! Fortunately we arrived there sometime in the afternoon at a nice and quiet time, we were practically alone in there. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgable.

The owner also have a restaurant across the street called "Bir & Fud" where they have a lot of Italien beers on tap. We ate there later the same day and had more great beers. The bartender from earlier was there and dropped by just to say "I have a beer you need to taste" and 5 minutes later, he served us a great Italian beer (see a picture below).

Here are some pictures from our visit. First, is from outside the little bar:

My girlfriend likes to draw and made this picture of our bartender:

When the bartender saw it, he wanted it on their wall, so that's where it (still?) hangs:

As you can see, the bar is small, there is seperate room about as big as this in the back too though:

As for the beers I tasted, I started out with a Harviestoun Ola Dubh on tap. What a great beer!

As you can see on the sign above, they actually had 2 Danish brews on tap! I didn't taste them though since I had already tasted Hornbeers excellent "Black Magic Woman" and I though it would be possible to find the Beer Here "Påske" in Denmark as well.

After the Harviestoun I continued with a Port Brewing Older Viscosity - another great choice recommended by our lovely bartender:

After 2 heavy beers (should probably have finished with those two, but...), I got Beck Bräu Affumicator on tap recommended and again I wasn't disappointed:

As mentioned earlier, we later had dinner at the "Bir & Fud" restaurant and of course had a nice beer there as well. I sadly can't remember which one I had, but it was quite decent and "worked" well together with the lovely food we had there. The bartender from earlier dropped by with a very nice Lambrate Imperial Ghisa for us to taste - a great way to end a great day:

If you ever visit Rome and like beers, you owe yourself to spend some time at Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà! A fair warning: If you drop by on the first day of your visit in Rome, there is a chance it'll be the only thing you'll see in Rome ;)
